Professor Tim Davies BA (Hons), MA, FHEA

Senior Lecturer on the BA Fine Art Site, Studio and Context course.

Tim Davies has been working as a visual artist for over 20 years and has exhibited widely in the UK and abroad. In 2011 he represented Wales in a solo exhibition at the Venice Biennale of Art. Tim was awarded a personal chair in 2012 in recognition of his professional achievements as a visual artist and his leadership of the Fine Art programme at Swansea.

Contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Fine Art. Module leader for: Deconstruction and Construction; Site and Audience; Research as Practice; Advanced Creative Enquiry; Major Project, including exhibition and external liaison; Student-led module; as well as dissertation supervision, Venice, Oxford and London study tours.

Recent research has included two main strands:

1. Investigating the spatial, temporal and social aspects of various environments, exploring what Soja (2010) terms ‘real-and-imagined’ spaces. Tim Davies ’s practice involves navigating, intervening in, observing and responding to sites and representations of sites, by which means he attempts to understand how they are perceived, experienced and negotiated, recognising de Certeau’s theory (2002) that ‘space is a practised place’.
2. Exploring which media is the most pertinent to the realisation in the presentation of the conceptual impulse behind the work.

Contemporary visual arts practice in a range of media including video, assemblage, collage, intervention, site specificity, installation and two-dimensional work. Also curatorial practice via the Ground: and strata projects. He also co- initiated Locws International in 1999, leaving in 2005 to pursue solo projects.

Tim Davies has led master-classes on-site responsive practice in Tallinn and Dublin. His work has been purchased for the following public collections:
